Meet The Trustees
Cheka Sana is run by four trustees. Some may be a familiar face, others may just be a name. So here our the trustees...
Daniella Durston
Hi, My name is Dani and I first volunteered out in Mwanza in January 2008. It was a last minute decision booked with only a few weeks to go. Best decision I ever made! It was truly an amazing experience and I was soon booking a flight back out to Tanz in the May that year.
On returning myself and a few other volunteers were keen to set up a charity to generate funds through donations, fundraising and grant applications. Running a charity is something new to me and i'm learning every single day!
I work for the Natural Environment Research Council and am based in Swindon. I am a PQ accountant and there is currently light at the end of the studying tunnel.
I am very enthusastic about the charity and we have lots of exciting plans and ideas. I look forward to meeting as many of our supporters as possible and happy to discuss my experiences at the centre with anyone interested in volunteering.
Neda Hashemi
Hi, I'm Neda. I first volunteered on the project in 2008 but have been back again. I am currently studying English at King's College, London.
Like the other Trustees, this is something completely new to me and I am enjoying learning all about the world of charities and all the red tape that goes with it!
One of my roles within the charities is corporate sponsorship so if anyone has any contacts or works for an organisation that may be able to help, please let me know.
I look forward to hopefully meeting you at one of our fundraising events.
Michelle Leonard - Tanzania Liasion Officer
I am currently based in Mwanza teaching at Isamilo International School. I first volunteered on the Kuleana Street Children Project in January 2008. This was an amazing experience of which i didn't want to end, hence my return to volunteer in October 2008. The street children in Mwanza inspired me to continue to offer my support which lead Naomi, Neda, Daniella and I to set up Cheka Sana Children's Trust.
My role within the charity is to provide the direct link between the two charities; Chekasana Children's Trust and Caretakers of the Envionment. I am responsible for all communications and the marketing of the charity within Tanzania.
I am also the editor of the Chekasana Newsletter and welcome any volunteer stories, pictures or news of fundraising events.
I look forward to meeting any volunteers and welcome you to Mwanza!
Naomi Power
Hi, my names Naomi Power and Im a trustee of Cheka Sana.
I am based in Dublin and am currently at University.
I've volunteered at Kuleana a number of times and I feel very committed to supporting the centre and COET's work after volunteering for them and seeing the great work they are doing. I will be dealing with more of the fundraising side of Cheka Sana and will be delighted to be in contact with any of you who are interested in fundraising. Send me an email and I will get back to you with anything I can help with.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all past volunteers and suppoters of the projects. Without you all this would not be possible, thank you!
