Future Plans
Street Children Centre
Currently at the centre we struggle to cover our monthly outgoings and therefore find it hard to develop other areas of our projects to benefit the children. One of our aims for the future is to develop the library.
Recently the volunteers set up a small library within the Street Children Centre and would like to continue developing the library and the range of books. We hope that the library will eventually be a place in which the boys can study and use the books to further their knowledge. We hope that by receiving donations we will be able to develop the resources of English, Kiswahili, History, Geography etc. In the future we would potentially like the library to be also used by locals as an educational resource. In addition to this we would like the library to include some computers for the children to do research and to have learning CD-ROM such as Encyclopaedias. We would also like to use the computers to teach the children basic computer skills as computer literacy is now an essential tool in the working environment.
TSC Sports Academy
Within the project we currently have one football pitch which is in very bad condition. To ensure good playing surface we need to renovate the pitch. Once this has been done, we will be able to fit in two pitches within the area so that we can run two separate age groups playing everyday. We also need to have clear goals as currently we are using posts which do not have a crossbar, making it difficult to define when a goal is actually scored- obviously causing some controversy when goals are disallowed.
In addition, we are hoping to do outreach work within the rural communities. We would like to use these football days to raise awareness about childrens' rights and engage with local families. Organising these types of events involves a lot of time and money and we would like to ensure the
media are involved so that we reach as many families as possible.
Day-Care Centre
The construction of the nursery has been put on hold due to lack of funding. We would like to continue the construction and finish the building and 'playing areas' surrounding. Once this has been completed the project will be self sustainable, but at this stage the day-care centre needs urgent funding to complete it.
